Rules of Practice and Procedure

The Rules of Practice and Procedure (“the Rules”) were developed collaboratively with Participants to ensure everyone has a common understanding of the roles, processes and approach for public proceedings.

Small Group Sessions & Consultation Transcripts

Small Group Sessions and Participant Consultations took place during Phase 3 of the Commission’s work. These sessions were organized in consultation with Participants to provide an opportunity for the Commissioners to hear directly from those most affected about their experiences and discuss recommendations for the final report.

Stakeholder Consultations were also held during this period with members of the Commission’s Research & Policy and Community Engagement teams, bringing together community organizations to discuss the issues the Commission is analyzing to help inform potential recommendations.

All of the information and input collected through these sessions will be considered in preparing recommendations.

Participant Submissions

Throughout public proceedings, Participants including those most affected, families, first responders, governments, and organizations, were able to provide oral and written submissions regarding evidence entered into the record. The lists below encompass written submissions received from our Participants throughout our work.

Other Submissions

These submissions were provided to the Commission outside of the formal Participant submission process.

Decisions

These are official decisions from the Commissioners that relate to our process like the Participation Decision or witnessed to be called during a proceeding.

Orders in Council

The details of the Commission's mandate are found below in official documents known as Orders in Council (OICs), issued by the federal and Nova Scotia governments, which provide the direction, guidelines, and parameters for the Commission to proceed with its work and the authority it can exercise in doing so. 

The Commission made a request and received approval from both the provincial and federal governments for an extension to submit the final report by March 31, 2023, instead of November 1, 2022. These details are found within the official OICs linked below.
